DEEP SEA FISHING CLUB MINUTES FOR

JANUARY 7TH, 2012

President Tom Martin called the meeting to order and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Visitors and 21 new members were introduced.  Approximately 1850 members attended. President Martin gave a brief summary of the types of fishing trips the club offers and that anyone who wants to learn more about the club may stay after the meeting.  The condensed minutes for the December 3rd meeting were summarized and approved.   Detailed minutes are available at each meeting or on the website. Bob Seguin also gave an update on the website and reminded everyone that the bulk email lists he uses to notify members of important changes is ONLY USED FOR THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS.  HE REQUESTS THAT CLUB MEMBERS DO THE SAME AND STOP SENDING  HIM MISCELLANEOUS MESSAGES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH FISH CLUB BUSINESS.  Tom Martin gave the treasurer’s report to include a summary of the monthly income and expenses.  .

FISHING TRIP REPORTS:  The December trip on the Thunder boated lots of grunts and some grouper which had to be returned to the sea.  Red grouper limit is now 2 per person.  Gag grouper season is still closed.  The Pastime Princess trip and the Haf n Haf trip were blown out. The pontoon trips out of Cedar Key went well.  Trips out of Crystal River boated lots of red fish with 3 keepers.  No trips were scheduled for the Gulf Grouper.  

OLD BUSINESS:  None.

NEW  BUSINESS:  The FWWC recently announced an open season on speckled sea trout.

OTHER BUSINESS:  THE FRESH WATER FISHING CLUB IS PLANNING A ROUND TRIP BY BUS FOR A COST OF $17 TO THE ORLANDO BASS PRO SHOP ON MARCH 4TH, SUNDAY.  TRIP WILL BE FROM 8 TO 2.  IF INTERESTED, PLEASE CALL JERRY ECHOLS, PRESIDENT OF THE CLUB, NOT LATER THAN FEBRUARY 25TH AT 259-9839.

100% RAFFLE:  Free trip winners on the Thunder or Pastime Princess this month are: Mike Laferty, George Chamberlain, George Tazzini, Wayne Brown, Gordon Kerlin, Vincent Fella, Dan Baron, Mike Tarrant, Jim Bathie, Russell Applegit, and Jim Christensen.  There is a six month limit on using these tickets, but if an emergency arises, talk to Glenn Kangas, Treasurer, for an exception.  Also, tickets do not include the price of the bus.

President Everett Belter called the meeting to order and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Visitors and 13 new members were introduced.  Approximately 150 members attended. The pontoon trips out of Cedar Key were picking up with good trout and reds boated.  Trips out of Crystal River boated lots of spanish mackerel.  No trips were scheduled for the Gulf Grouper.   Club member Bill Smock went out on the Pastime Princess on November 11th and had a great day with cobia, snapper and trigger fish.

OLD BUSINESS:  None.

NEW  BUSINESS:  The slate for the officers for the coming year was presented by Chairman Bud Mangels.  For President-Tom Martin.  For Vice-President-Everett Belter.  For Treasurer- Glenn Kangas.  For Secretary-Jayne Goughan.  Also, Ron Nicholson has agreed to take over Glenn's duties handling the pontoon trips.  Since there were no other nominations presented, a unanimous vote of yes was cast for the nominees.  Congratulations to all.

OTHER BUSINESS:  A special plaque and a $100 gift certificate was presented to Everett Belter for his loyal and dedicated service to the Club as President for the past six years.

NOVEMBER 5TH 2011

FISHING TRIP REPORTS:  The October trip on the Thunder boated tons of grunts and 8 keeper grouper.  Tom Heller won the fish pool with a nice 28 1/2"er.  The Pastime Princess trip was a little slow with some bass and snapper brought aboard.  Two Haf n Haf trip were blown out but the 3rd one boated a bunch of sharks. The pontoon trips out of Cedar Key were picking up with good trout and reds boated.  Trips out of Crystal River boated lots of spanish mackeral, trout and triple tail.  No trips were scheduled for the Gulf Grouper.

OCTOBER 1ST 2011

President Everett Belter called the meeting to order and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Visitors, 9 renewals and 16 new members were introduced.  Approximately 150 members attended. President Belter gave a brief summary of the types of fishing trips the club offers and that anyone who wants to learn more about the club may stay after the meeting.  The condensed minutes for the September 3rd meeting were summarized and approved.   Detailed minutes are available at each meeting or on the website. FISHING TRIP REPORTS:  The September trip on the Thunder boated a lot of grunts but no grouper.  The Pastime Princess trip was blown out.  The Haf n Haf trip was also blown out.  The pontoon trips out of Cedar Key were picking up with lots of redfish boated.  Trips out of Crystal River boated lots of spanish mackeral.  No trips were scheduled for the Gulf Grouper.

President Belter gave a brief summary of the types of fishing trips the club offers and that anyone who wants to learn more about the club may stay after the meeting.  The condensed minutes for the August 6th meeting were summarized and approved.   Detailed minutes are available at each meeting or on the website. FISHING TRIP REPORTS:  The August trip on the Thunder was very slow because of the hot weather. Even the bus lost its A/C.  The Pastime Princess trip was also slow with some seabass and vermillion snapper.  No Haf n Haf trip was scheduled.  The pontoon trips out of Cedar Key were also slow due to the heat.  Only one trip went out of Crystal River but no report was given.  No trips were scheduled for the Gulf Grouper.  

OLD BUSINESS:  Red snapper season is still closed in the Gulf and Atlantic.  Gag grouper season will open in the Gulf on September 16th. It is already open in the Atlantic.

FISHING TRIP REPORTS:  The July trip on the Thunder was okay, but no fish pool was used.  The Pastime Princess trip was slow with some seabass and vermillion snapper.  No Haf n Haf trip was scheduled.  The pontoon trips out of Cedar Key were good.  Flats trips out of Crystal River produced some small reds, but no big ones.  No trips were scheduled for the Gulf Grouper.

JULY 2ND 2011

President Everett Belter called the meeting to order and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Visitors and 13 new/returning members were introduced.  Approximately 90 members attended. President Belter gave a brief summary of the types of fishing trips the club offers and that anyone who wants to learn more about the club may stay after the meeting.  The condensed minutes for the June 4th meeting were summarized and approved.  A brief description of the Club's website was also presented.  Detailed minutes are available at each meeting or on the website. SPECIAL REPORT:  Jayne Goughan is the new Club Secretary. Thanks to Jayne for volunteering.

FISHING TRIP REPORTS:  The June trip on the Thunder was slow, but Fred O'Connor won the fish pool with a nice keeper flounder.  The Pastime Princess trip was also slow but still caught some seabass and vermillion snapper.  The Haf n Haf trip was a total success with a limit of amberjacks and two nice grouper.  Red snapper were also caught, but released.  Millard Johnson broke the boat and club record with a giant 69-pound amberjack.  The pontoon trips out of Cedar Key were fairly successful.  No flats trips out of Crystal River were scheduled.  No trips were scheduled for the Gulf Grouper. The Cash's, Arlene and Vernon, make a trip to Destin, Florida on a red snapper trip and limited out both days.  They also received some snapper from another fisherman and brought home 16 beauties. 

OLD BUSINESS:  Grouper season remains closed until September in the Gulf.  .

D. tags to avoid mixing up fish stringers.

NEW  BUSINESS:  A special trip has been scheduled on the Thunder for tonight and tomorrow to go red snapper fishing.  15 fishermen are required to make this trip.  As of the close of the meeting, the quota was not met so it was planned to cancel the overnight trip.  Captain Byron, who sails out of Pete's Pier at Crystal River is scheduling scallop trips for the next several weeks.  Anyone interested can contact Cpt Byron at 843-422-2074.

JUNE 4TH 2011

President Everett Belter called the meeting to order and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Visitors and 9 new/returning members were introduced.  Approximately 100 members attended. President Belter gave a brief summary of the types of fishing trips the club offers and that anyone who wants to learn more about the club may stay after the meeting.  The condensed minutes for the May 7th meeting were summarized and approved.  A brief description of the Club's website was also presented.  Detailed minutes are available at each meeting or on the website. SPECIAL REPORT:  Jayne Goughan was introduced as the new Secretary. Thanks to Jayne for volunteering.

FISHING TRIP REPORTS:  The May trip on the Thunder was cancelled due to electrical damage caused by lightning.  The Pastime Princess trip caught lots of seabass.  Hank Bitter won the pool with a nice 14 pound gag grouper.  The Haf n Haf trip was blown out.  The pontoon trips out of Cedar Key were fairly successful.  Flats trips out of Crystal River produced lots of spanish macks and trout.  No trips were scheduled for the Gulf Grouper.  Club members Bob Seguin, Mel Traub and Fred Sikema tested out a new trip with back up Haf n Haf Captain Chris on his flats fishing boat. Several nice fish were  brought aboard.  Talk to Bob for more info on this trip.  Fat Chance trips out of Stuart were slow.

OLD BUSINESS:  None.

NEW  BUSINESS:  The spring expo went on Saturday, May 21st.  Attendance was low but many new club members were signed up.  Fishing club hats now cost $5.00.  Club member David Doyle was looking for one or more guys to hit the Tarpon down in Boca Grande on 8-9 June.  Talk to him if you would like to go.
