DEEP SEA FISHING CLUB MINUTES FOR

SEPTEMBER 4TH 2010

President Everett Belter called the meeting to order and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Visitors and 12 new/returning members were introduced.  Approximately 130 members attended.  President Belter gave a brief summary of the types of fishing trips the club offers and that anyone who wants to learn more about the club may stay after the meeting.  The condensed minutes for the August 7th meeting were summarized and approved.  Detailed minutes are available at each meeting or on the website. Bob Seguin described the club website for the new members and asked that anyone who wanted to be added to the club bulk email list, see him after the meeting.  Tom Martin gave the treasurer’s report to include a summary of the monthly income and expenses.  Contact Tom, Treasurer, if you want further details. Copies of the new Florida Saltwater Fishing Regulations for July-December are available.   A new magazine called Fishing Lines, is also available.  It is full of nice color pictures of all the salt water fish we catch.  Also plenty of fishing gear was again brought to the meeting for sale to members.

FISHING TRIP REPORTS:  The August trip on the Thunder boated a bunch of undersized red and gag grouper. Finally Sam Di Pietro boated a keeper gag to win the boat pool.  The Pastime Princess trip was again slow due to a cold water condition. The Haf n Haf trip was successful in catching sea bass. Over 100 were caught with 75 keepers brought aboard up to 2 1/2 pounds.  No  Gulf Grouper trip was scheduled.  No trips were scheduled out of Cedar Key.  Flats trips out of Crystal River were pretty good with a variety of fish caught but some were cancelled because of weather.

OLD BUSINESS:    Sue Waller continues to recover but is still awaiting potential further surgery.

FISHING TRIP SCHEDULE:  The Fishing Trip schedule for September and October was presented. This includes trips to the Gulf, the Atlantic, and to the flats.  You may view this schedule and details on any of these trips, on the Fishing Trips Web Page on our website, or contact the appropriate individual listed on the Home and Fishing Trips pages.

NEW  BUSINESS:  President Belter reminded all that the picnic is scheduled for November 4th.  President Belter asked members to start donating fish now.  Tickets are on sale now and at the  October meeting.

The EPA is planning to ban the use of lead in all salt water fishing and other areas based on complaints of some "do-gooders" that say they are finding lead in the fish.  Glenn Kangas has provided the club with a form to be filled out to complain to all the appropriate agencies.  This is in the form of an email and will be forwarded to all members of the club currently on Bob Seguin's mailing list.  If you are not on the list but want to participate in this activity, contact Bob and he will take care of it.

The fresh water club has rods and reels available at the La Hacienda Rec Center for kids who want to fish or learn to fish in our designated fishing lakes.  If you have some young visitors, hop on down to La Hacienda and take advantage of this.

Our wonderful Florida FWCC has voted 7-0 to extend the ban on snook fishing for 1 more year in the Gulf until September 2011.  In the Atlantic, they voted to open the season from Sept 17th thru Dec 15th.  For further information you can go to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation website or contact President Belter.

OTHER BUSINESS:  Lou Del Prete who had a serious stroke several months ago, and is also a club past president, made a surprise visit to the meeting.  He is recovering well and brightened up the meeting with a few stories(?).  Way to go Phil.  There is a new group called "The Salty Sea Tales" that has formed near Lakeland Florida headed by Cpt  Gary Carr.  Their main purpose is to get together and, believe it or not, swap salty sea tales.  For information, contact President Belter.
