Gulf Fishing Deep Sea
THE THUNDER, Hernando Beach, Gulf of Mexico
Trips on the Thunder are scheduled monthly, usually on the 3rd Thursday of each month. The Thunder accommodates approximately 30 passengers and is based out of the Sport Fishermen's Landing in Hernando Beach, Florida on the Gulf. The Club usually books the vessel for each trip with the minimum number of passengers required so that the Club “owns” the vessel for the day. The Thunder is an open boat with bench seats and has a bathroom. This vessel is basically a bottom-fishing boat, fishing wrecks and reefs for snapper, grouper, triggerfish, grunts, shark, black sea bass, and other bottom-feeding fish while sailing out 20-30 miles offshore.
Trips are 9 hours long. The Thunder provides rod, reel, tackle, license, bait and fish cleaning. You can also bring your own tackle with your lucky lure or “secret” bait. Bring your food and drink in a small cooler. And don’t forget your lucky charm. No fishing license is required for this trip.
Transportation and Costs
Departure time from the Laurel Manor Recreation Center parking lot is 5:30 am. A chartered bus is used when a minimum of 20 anglers have signed up. If less than 20 anglers have signed up for a trip, carpooling is used. The cost for fishing on the Thunder is currently $55, which includes the mates’ tip, plus an additional $30 if there is a bus.
When members carpool to the Thunder, it is Club practice for those members riding in a carpool to give the driver of the car $10.00 per person to cover fuel, wear and tear.
